All in all, if you loved Lavi, Mikasa and Eren, reading Koutetsujou no Kabaneri’s preview can only set your hopes high.

The Story

In the Far Eastern Hanamorto Island, mysterious monsters appear. Immortal, unless their iron-clad heart is pierced, they attack and bite people, infecting them with a mysterious illness. Once bitten, a person is falling into a rage to the point of losing their human appearance and turning into an undead bloodthirsty creature. The resulting monstrosity is known as Kabane.

The only hope for humanity are the specially-created building constructions called “stations” – safe places for people to live, gather and travel. Stations have governors and protectors, as well as a team of well-skilled engineers. Transportation is realised via steam locomotives, often conducted by their own creators.

seiyuu:Tasuku Hatanaka  (Yu☆Gi☆Oh! Zexal’s Yuuma Tsukumo)

Ikoma is an engineer at the Aragane Station, as well as a conductor of a locomotive he calls Hayajiro. He is brave and ambitious, often dreaming to one day defeat all Kabane. His aim to become a hero might often make him the subject to his colleagues’ jokes, but does not stop his uniting efforts with friend technician Takumi in building a unique anti-Kabane weapon called Tsuranukizutsu.

seiyuu: Sayaka Senbongi (Juuou Mujin no Fafnir’s Yuu Mononobe)

One day Mumei appears at Aragane Station seemingly out of nowhere and attracts Ikoma’s interest with the fact that she does not undergo the regular Kabane inspection. Warriors also seem to be acting strangely around the mystery girl, so what is her secret? One night, after Ikoma and Mumei’s paths cross, Hayajiro goes out of control. It is soon revealed that all crew aboard are turned into monsters. What can Mumei do and will she help Ikoma realise his ambition to become humanity’s saviour?

seiyuu: Yuki Kaji (Accel World’s Haruyuki Arita)

Takumi is a colleague of Ikoma’s at the Aragane Station. He not only helps with the design and realisation of Tsuranukizutsu, but is also one of Ikoma’s biggest fans. Even though Takumi is sometimes perplexed by his friend’s explosive bravery, he sincerely admires him for his complete lack of fear.

seiyuu: Kanae Oki (Naruto Shippuuden’s Yukimi)

Kajika also works as a steam locomotive engineer at the Aragane Station and is a friend of Takumi and Ikoma. She regards everyone as a family and is a kind person, with a soft and loving character.

seiyuu: Maaya Uchida (Noragami’s Hiyori Iki)

Ayame is the eldest daughter of the current governor of the Aragane Station and as such, is predestined to one day become the governor herself. Still, she remains seemingly impassive to what’s happening and never voices her opinion on the possible future of the Station and humanity’s war against the Kabane.

seiyuu: Toshiki Masuda (Samurai Flamenco’s Masayoshi Hazama)

Kurusu is Ayame’s personal bodyguard. He is an honourable warrior who, though still young, is known to be very loyal and honest. Kurusu is also the one to have good and unbiased judgement in a tight situation. He is regarded as one of the top swordmaster in the region.

seiyuu: Kensuke Satou (Kuroko no Basket’s Taisuke Ootsubo)

Kibito is another one of the samurai serving at Aragane Station under Ayame’s family. Unlike other soldiers, who often demonstrate haughtiness, he treats all people equally, regardless of their status, age and social position.

seiyuu: Ryota Osaka (Shingeki no Kyojin’s Marco Bott)

Sukari is another indispensable part of the Aragane Station engineering team. Taking residence at the station, he is known as the local cynic. Still, to those who really know him, it is clear that this is only a facade, which is hiding Sukari’s sagacity he tends to demonstrate, when the time is right.

seiyuu: Mariya Ise (Durarara!!’s Mika Harima)

Yukina is like a big sister to everyone at Aragane Station. Being a crew member of the Hayajiro locomotive transporting people and goods all over Hinamoto, she sincerely enjoys her job. Besides being hard-working and skilful at her profession, Yukina is very kind at heart.

  1. I hope there is a strong female character like Mikasa here. From what I can guess, though, this won’t be the case. Even though she won Shingeki no Kyojin a lot of fans, Wit still encourage naked moe and whiny shoujo.

    1. AKuma-chan, don’t forget that SnK was an adaptation and this is an original anime. They maybe tried to make a different character in comparison, to show they can pull off an Accel World or SAO on us.

      1. Well…maybe :) I never understood Sword Art Online (the anime), not liked Accel World, sooo…to each his own, I guess!
