Lupin III TV Anime Series Announced. First since Lupin III: Part III (1984)

Lupin III: Part IIIThe big news from the recent MIPCOM event is that there will be a new Lupin III TV anime series.This will be the first fully-Lupin series after the 1984-85 Lupin III: Part III. The story of the upcoming project will follow the main character around whilehe’s in San Marino and Italy.

The project will be handled by the following team:

Kazuhide Tomonaga (key animator on Lupin the 3rd: The Mystery of Mamo and Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro, including the whole iconic car chase) will be Chief Director
Yuichiro Yano (Moyashimon, Francesca, Patapata Hikousen no Bouken) as Director
Animation studio – Telecom Animation Film
Yuuya Takahashi (Donten ni Warau, Tiger & Bunny, Lupin the III: Jigen Daisuke no Bohyou) as Screenwriter

Original creator Munkey Punch is supportive of the idea and the project and has said that he is excited to see what new adventures the characters will fall into.

Director Tomonaga has confirmed that this will be a show for all audiences and that he will make Lupin the clashing-elements character he has always been. Expect a Lupin with hard-boiled and comical personality who can be cool but also cheeky.

Airdate is TBA, but we know in which season it will begin – next spring!
