You Like Ghost in the Shell? Here’s Hollywood for You!

ghost in the shellGhost in the Shell will be adapted into a US live-action movie. Masamune Shirow’s original manga has already created history in the animated world, but is still to be acknowledged in the live-action one. One of the possible actresses for the main character is Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street).

Directing the project for DreamWorks (for now) is Rupert Sanders. His previous works as a director include a number of shorts and the box office hit Snow White and the Huntsman, which sprang his career into life.

The original sci-fi manga was first published in 1989 and ended in 1991. Many new projects, animated as well as printed, followed including the latest movie series Ghost in the Shell ARISE which focuses on the events that brought main character Motoko Kusanagi to the team that breaks the status quo in the original story (a prequel to the original manga).

How do you feel about a movie like this? I already got some opinions on this from the social media and many fans consider it to be a good thing as a well-made sci-fi action movie based on the story will outmatch project such as Underworld easily.

  1. I am afraid I am not a fan of the preliminary casting for the lead. I believe besides the lack of physical resemblance, there is also an ability issue with this actress… I am also one of the people, who believe such adaptations should be realised by fans of the original. I am not sure they know a lot about the anime culture in general, let alone Ghost in the Shell…
    Still, let’s wait and see.
