Coppelion Manga’s Anime Adaptation Announced

coppelionThe anime adaptation of Tomonori Inoue’s Coppelion manga was delayed because of the relation the plot has to the recent Fukushima Nuclear Disaster from March 2011. Now, two years and a half later, the production has been restarted and with the publication of the 18th volume of the manga, an announcement about episode 1 of the anime was released.

Coppelion episode 1 will be shown during the Japan Expo and Anime Expo while the whole series will begin this autumn.

The plot revolves around several girls, who have been genetically engineered in order to be able to enter an old zone, devastated by a nuclear meltdown. Their task is to find possible survivors and save them from the life of isolation. Playing the three main characters will be Haruka Tomatsu (Sword Art Online’s Asuna Yuuki), Satomi Akesaka (Tantei Opera Milky Home’s Henriette Mystere) and Kana Hanazawa (many including Durarara!!’s Anri Sonohara).

  1. I love Inoue-san’s unique artwork, so I am eager to see it recreated in anime. What bothers me is that it may turn out grotesque, but then again “Once Piece” is grotesque in a way and not an ounce less good. :-)

  2. I don’t know how I missed this manga! It actually sounds really intriguing. Great timing to read it, I think…
