kaze tachinu miyazaki ghibliThe popular Japanese performer, singer and songwriter, Yumi Matsutoya will be singing the theme song for the upcoming Hayao Miyazaki anime movie Kaze Tachinu. Her song “Hikouki Gumo” (Airplane Cloud) was composed when she was just 16 years old and will be a part of the official Kaze Tachinu OST.

The information was shared by the performer right before performing the same song during the Tokiko Iwatani Award Ceremony on Thursday. She also had the chance to explain the title and the song itself, saying that when a piece is composed with a lot of feelings in it, it will link to people’s hearts and the listeners will be able to ride those feelings like a plane and soar freely through the skies.

This is the second collaboration between the singer and Miyazaki. The first time was when her songs “Rouge no Dengon” and “Yasashisa ni Tsutsumareta Nara” were used for the director’s project Kiki’s Delivery Service.

The movie will premier on July 20, 2013.
