Zipang – Shinsou Kairyuu – New Historical Manga by Kaiji Kawaguchi

After having written the popular historical manga Zipang, Kaiji Kawaguchi hasn’t taken on many serious projects. Now, almost exactly three years after the end of the manga, the mangaka has announced that he will be working on a new series. The title of the new historical manga by Mr. Kawaguchi is Zipang – Shinsou Kairyuu and it will be published in Mornng magazine’s 1st issue on December 6.

The original Zipang manga ran from 2001 until the end of 2009 and sprung 43 volumes and 422 chapters. It is definitely a popular story among the otaku who like to indulge into history. It revolves round the Japanese fleet and especially the JDS Mirai who is on the border between entering the current World War or not.

This new series, although bearing quite a similar name to the former one, has been said to have no relation to the first one whatsoever. It will also be with a dashing beginning:  56-page chapter and a color opening page.

Kawaguchi-san has worked on Boku wa Beatles (as an artist) 10-volume-long time-traveling manga and the ongoing Kyouma no Hata – Revolutionary Wars (as an artist).
