From Up on Poppy Hill Licensed in North America by GKids

from up on poppy hillThe North American company GKids has licensed Goro Miyazaki’s From up on Poppy Hill anime movie. The news was announced during the latest edition of the French Annecy animation festival. The movie was announced as a March 2013 release and as an addition, GKids is planning to qualify Hayao Miyazaki’s son Goro for the upcoming Oscars!

From up on Poppy Hill will probably be renamed to just “Poppy Hill” and is a definite a must see for Ghibli fans. Why? Because it was not only the newest from Miyazaki’s (and not only) studio and also the highest-grossing movie in Japan for 2011.

This will be the first Ghibli movie to be released on the North American market by someone else before Disney.  The famous studio have been the initial Ghibli distributor for many years, but GKids fought bravely and won this deal.

  1. Disney has become a hideout for a bunch of losers producing meaningless 3D crap and stupid starlets.

Congratulations to the (new) GKids for winning this one.

    1. Hmmm… that sure was brave. I am fed up with Hannah Montana too, though… And she’s not even the worse.

  2. Nother Miyazaki with an Oscar? A bit early in my opinion :) Congratulations on his nomination, however.
