Manga University in Osaka? Challenge Taken!

A manga university which will be centred entirely around manga and the similar arts is planned to be established and licensed for the upcoming new academic year. Although still a project in the making and awaiting the Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, “Osaka Sougou Manga Geijutsu Kouka Dai” (Osaka Technical Institute for Manga Art) is definitely a challenge accepted by the Japan.

According to the documents given by now, the University in Osaka, which will be the first to officially include the word “manga” in its official name, will teach up to 90 students in the first three years. The number will then expand to 110. The departments will occupy themselves with subjects such as digital manga, digital and non-digital comic arts.

The decision for the future of the “Osaka Sougou Manga Geijutsu Kouka Dai” (Osaka Technical Institute for Manga Art) will be taken in October, when the committee and especially Hirofumi Hirano, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology will give his final judgement on the subject.

  1. “Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology”?! How does the poor man even remember his work title?! :D

I hope they really make this institute :)

  2. I wish them good luck. Creating an entire university that is dedicated only to manga is quite an endeavour…
