Chouyaku Hyakunin Isshu: Uta Koi Anime Series Announced (Video)

Chouyaku Hyakunin Isshu: Uta Koi is a manga by Kei Sugita that re-tells classic Japanese poetry. A historical josei manga explains human relationships and love. Hyakunin isshu is also am uta-garuta card game that combines different souls and lives.

Except for the card game, Hyakunin Isshu is mainly a style of compiling traditional Japanese waka poetry. The idea is to make an anthology of 100 poems, written by a 100 different people. Even the translation (literal) of the name of the anthology is “Hundred men, hundred poems (each)”.

TYO Animation and MAS will produce the project while Kenichi Kasai (Bakuman, Honey and Clover) will be directing. Tomoko Konparu (NANA, Cat’s Eye) will handle the script composition. Characters will be designed by Aki Tsunaki (Boku no Sexual Harassment, Mask of Zeguy).
