Studio Ghibli’s Great Three to Receive Honorary Degrees

Hayao Miyazaki, Toshio Suzuki and Isao Takahata, also known as the great three of the studio, are going to receive a special Honorary Degree by the Rhode Island School of Design. The creators of such shows as Ponyo, My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away are going to be named Honorary members of the Elite College at a ceremony that will happen this June 2.

Director Toshio Suzuki will attend the ceremony personally and will accept the award on behalf of the whole Studio Ghibli.

Being a part of Japanese popular culture since 1985, Studio Ghibli has received many awards and acknowledgements. But it was not only prizes that matter, the public’s opinion is also of the highest when it comes to the creators of My Neighbour Totoro, Ponyo, Spirited Away, Nauscaa of the Valley of the Wind, Grave of the Fireflies, Howl’s Moving Castle, Castle in the Sky and of course, the latest in the list – Arrietty.
