The Prince of Tennis is over. Long live The New Prince of Tennis!
Have no fear, fans of the Prince of Tennis, there is the New Prince of Tennis anime TV series to begin just in January and it will satisfy all your needs for a cool sports anime. No wonder there is a second manga being serialized on the same topic, no wonder there will be an animated adaptation of it – after all, this is probably one of the most popular sports franchises in the history of anime and manga.
Although there is still a limited amount of information about this very anime, I couldn’t hold myself and decided that the next winter anime season 2011/2012 preview will be exactly about the new adventures and challenges before Ryoma Echizen and his teammates.
Stated to launch January 5, 2012, the New Prince of Tennis anime television series is definitely one of the most widely anticipated show of the season. Yet, we have no voice cast announced, no official website even. What we have, though, is the story of the manga. Unlike the aim to win a tournament, this time, our main protagonist Ryoma Echizen is giving tennis his all in order to participate in a an elite sports camp where only the best of the best 50 players can be. This all-star team will be Japan’s secret (although not very secret in this case) weapon for the future.
The show is to be directed by Shunsuke Tada who has previously worked on the Prince of Tennis: Eikokushiki Teikyuu Shiro Kessen! movie of the same franchise and also: Bungaku Shoujo and Tsubasa Chronicle: Shunraiki. Seeing that the director of the prequel series and a lot more instalments of the franchise Takayuki Hamana is not mentioned in this one, we cannot feel even a bit sorry for the change. But it is not a necessary evil. We’ll just going to have to wait and see.
The upcoming New Prince of Tennis (also known as Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama) will be M.S.G. and NAS production. and will be shown on all major Japanese TV channels. Streaming or simulcasts are still not available, but we doubt it that all legitimate streaming companies will miss out on this chance.
