Japanese Idol Group AKB48 Gets Its Own Anime

As read in the Nikkan Sports newspaper, popular Japanese idol group AKB48 will have its very own anime TV series. The projects’ exact air date and title are still undisclosed, but there is still something for me to give you all! The series will begin broadcasting next Spring and will have an all-original plot (meaning there will not be anything based on novels, books nor manga works…supposedly). In charge of direction will be Shouji Kawamori (Escaflowne, Macross franchise) and of production – Toshimichi Ootsuki. The idol group’s official producer Yasushi Akimoto is supervising everything.

Of all 200 idols and their spin-offs, there will be nine chosen to perform the theme song and there will also be battles between the idols in order to get those priceless voice roles.

Will they be able to become the next IDOLM@STER or will they fail at doing it? Do you think such shows have a future or are they just for promotion and are these two really as incompatible as I say they are since all the game-promo anime TV series are so popular?

Well, what can I say… Do I smell a lot of Moe and Ecchi or am I being sarcastic? I just hope they are able in acting since there are plenty of good seiyuu that can make the new characters realistic even if they’re not the idols themselves.
