For the Fans of History: Akira’s Katsuhiro Otomo’s New Shounen Manga

According to a brief in Shinchosha’s art magazine Geijustu Shincho, Katsuhiro Otomo will come out of his hibernation with a first attempt at shounen manga, which will also be his first longer story after the internationally acknowledged Akira. The man, who has turned his name into a cult in anime directing with Steamboy, Gundam: Mission to the Rise, Memories and his own Akira, will have his story set in the Meiji period (1868-1912) of Japanese history.

Akira’s Katsuhiro Otomo with New Manga in Geijutsu Shincho

Katsuhiro Otomo is known for the creation of Akira, writing the story of Steamboy and as the director of the live-action Mushishi movie. After a 6-year long break, he will be having a new manga short published. The project with bee an 8-page coloured one and will run in the special edition of Geijutsu Shincho.

Akira Live Action Movie on Hold

There is a certain issue with the production process of the live-action Akira movie. The pre-production has been shut down, but this is not the end of the entire project, say websites Variety and Deadline. The studio currently in charge of the film, Warner Bros, is requesting that the script by David James Kelly is rewritten. According to the statement given by WB, they will be working with a quickly hired high-end writer for the remake. There are no certain names to be announced, but according to the rumours Jonah Nolan (The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises) and Michael Green (Green Lantern) are two of the better possibilities.
