Studio Ghibli Animates Joan G. Robinson’s When Marnie Was There

Studio Ghibli will be adapting Joan G. Robinson’s When Marnie Was There novel. The movie will bear the title “Omoide no Marnie“. The book was first published in 1967 and has multiple re-releases. It is a heartwarming story of family values, priorities and how two young girls’ lives suddenly entwine as Anna and Marnie meet in a foster home in Norfolk.

This children’s classic was one of the 50 titles retired director Hayao Miyazaki left to his colleagues at Studio Ghibli. These recommendations are books and works the founder himself was planning on adapt or was wishing to see adapted Ghibli-style.

The movie will be directed by Karigurashi no Arrietty‘s Hiromasa Yonebayashi.

Information about the Joan G. Robinson book entitled “When Marnie Was There” can be read on the Collins’ official website.
