Oscar Nominated Anime For 2013

Three anime projects have been submitted for consideration for the upcoming Oscar nominations. Out of the 19 animated motion pictures (16 of which are not Japanese anime productions), only 5 will fully participate in the final vote.Studio Ghibli, SHAFT an Production I.G are there, but will they survive the big competition?

“Ernest and Celestine”
“The Fake”
“Free Birds“
“The Legend of Sarila”
“A Letter to Momo” (Momo e no Tegami) by Hiroyuki Okiura and Production I.G
“Monsters University”
“O Apóstolo”
“Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie – Rebellion” by Akiyuki Shinbo and Studio SHAFT
“Rio: 2096 A Story of Love and Fury”
“The Smurfs 2”
“The Wind Rises” (Kaze Tachinu) by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli

Please keep in mind that the Oscars want each final nominee to have had specific runs around specific events and regions. Some of the currently listed titles have not done this.

The official nomination for the 86th Academy Awards will be finalised and presented to the general pubic on Thursday, 16th January, 2014, at 05:30 a.m. local time. The event will happen at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

I think they will give it to Planes, Turbo or The Smurfs. Not that I agree.
