Finally, we have the exact premiere date for Studio Ghibli’s founder’s first movie in 14 years since his project My Neighbours the Yamadas. Kaguya-hime no Monogatari (The Tale of Princess Kaguya) will launch on 23rd November and will have music scores by Joe Hisaishi and an original song entitled “Inochi no Kioku” and performed by Kazumi Nikaido.
The story of this new movie by the creator of Grave of the Fireflies and Only Yesterday is based on a classic Japanese tale. This tale is translated in English as the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, while the Japanese title is Taketori Monogatari. It revolve around a tiny princess who is found inside of a bamboo stalk by a man who works as a bamboo cutter. This is not the first title based on this folktale either as both Arina Tanemura’s “Sakura-hime Kaden” and Reiko Shimizu’s “Kaguya Hime” are also founded on the same story.
