The first simultaneous projects by Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki after 15 years (with “Grave of the Fireflies” coming out on the same day as “My Neighbour Totoro” in 1988) were announced in December. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen issues and delays, the Takahata project “Kaguya-hime no Monogatari” will be postponed. It will not come out in the summer and alongside Miyazaki’s “Kaze Tachinu“.
Although the main promotional point that the Ghibli studio staff made clear was the simultaneity of the projects, it comes out that Miyazaki and Takahata’s two new anime movies will not be released not only in the same day, but also in the same season as Taketori monogatari’s (Tale of the Bamboo-cutter) adaptation will have to wait until at least the Autumn season.
The reasons named by director Takahata included incomplete storyboard, animation and other processes that involve and influence the project directly.
