Arata Kangatari is the newest anime project based on a story by Fushigi Yuugi’s mangaka Yuu Watase. The first promo video lasts for nearly a minute and shows the basics of how fantasy and reality clash in this adventurous story. It is roughly based on history, but most of all on imagination.
The show will air in 2013, but no exact dates have been confirmed.

The original manga by Watase has been running in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine since 2008. Its story revolves around the absurd that follows the sudden exchange of two young men and their opposite worlds. Arata is the male successor of the matriarchal Hime Clan. In order to keep the power and faith in his clan, he needs to keep his gender a secret, but such a secret can’t last long. Soon enough the truth is discovered and he needs to flee. Surprisingly, he ends up in modern-day Japan while a young Japanese boy named Arata Hinohara ends up being sucked into the mythical worlds and is mistaken for the heir of the Hime Clan.
