Doraemon’s Tsutomu Shibayama and Akira’s Susumu Aketagawa Receive Merit Award

ζ–‡εŒ–εΊThe sound director of Akira Susumu Aketagawa and the animation director of Doraemon Tsutomu Shibayama have been awarded with the Merit Award by the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs on Thursday as a part of the yearly movie awards held by the Agency.

Shibayama-sensei has worked on many projects aside of Doraemon including Ranma 1/2 and Lupin III: The Secret of Mamo. He has worked in Toei Animation (Toei Douga at the time) since 1963. He is the founder of Ajia-do anime production studio.

Aketagawa-sensei is the sound director of Akira, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Guin Saga and more. He’s been a part of Mushi productions from the same year as Shibayama – 1963. Later, he formed Group TAC and founded Magic Capsule sound production company. In 2009 he began working as a visiting professor at the Manga and Anime Department in the Kyoto Seika University.
