Kyoto Animation has announced its award winners in all current categories. The scenario one was eliminated from the list. No honorable mentions nor grand prizes were given this year. This is yet another controversy coming from the Kyoto Animation committee… for a third year in a row.
The Kyoto Animation Award program is definitely one of the popular events in the manga, screenwriting and novelwriting fields. As summer is coming, I expected the announcement of the winners in various categories. Kyoto Animation Studio (who is behind shows such as K-ON! and has also worked as support on many Ghibli films) originally announced 500,000 Japanese Yen (about 4,690€) as an award for the grand prize winners and 100,000 Japanese Yen (about 938€) prize for the winner of the honorable award.
Both these titles, however, weren’t given. The studio has received many applications and works in the manga and novel categories, but it seems that none of them was good enough.
This is the third time some kind of a controversy appears with these awards. Last year, for example, the studio didn’t announce any honorable mentions nor grand prizes in both manga and scenario categories, and gave only honorable mentions in the novel one. I just hope they don’t decide to take out the manga category next,..

And the Winners Are:
Although it is a very blatant decision, I have to also congratulate the studio for being as honest and not just hand their titles to anyone. However, I still don’t know what the entries were like… Do you have any ideas?
