Latest Acquisitions by JManga and Kodansha USA

Today is surely one busy day for the manga industry all over the world. JManga, one of the few legal online services through which you can legally read the latest manga chapters, and Kodansha Comics, a distributor in North America, have announced their new acquisitions. Kodansha has put their name under Danza, Battle Angel Alita: Last Order and Watashi ni xx Shinasai! (as Missions of Love). JManga’s new titles include Boku to Kanojo XXX (Your and Mine Secret),Monochrome Factor, Tactics and others.

Kodansha’s new titles are set to debut in November and December.

Missions of Love is the English title of Ema Toyama’s Watashi ni xx Shinasai! manga series. It tells the story of Yukina, an introverted high school girl and Shigure – the best looking and most admired guy to be found. Secret has it that Yukina is actually a popular novelist with mobile works that every reader knows. Soon, she decides to treat Shigure to a candy – doing ‘missions’ or rather challenges, of love and letting her write about them.

Battle Angel Alita: Last Order is a classic take on cyborg battles by renowned sci-fi writer Yukito Kishiro (Aqua Knight, Hito short story series). It revolves around Alita, a cyborg girl with no recollection of her past life whatsoever and her participation in the Zenith of Things Tournament. She wishes to protect the mind of her best friend Lou, but it is a hard road the one in front of her and a lot of enemies will try to defeat her.

Danza is another great collection of awkward and incredible stories by author Natsume Ono (House of Five Leaves, Ristorante Paradiso). Friendships, family relations, natural disasters and even an NYPD cop’s sudden breakdown are all topics from the separate short stories inside this collection.

JManga’s latest acquisitions are:

    Nao Ozawa’s Black Borders

Nao Kuruse’s Harukaze Biyori (1)

Towa Oshima’s Joshi Kousei (High School Girls) (2)

Asumiko Nakamura’s Doukyusei

The titles a big distributor like Kodansha has acquired say a lot about the manga of today… Nothing impressive/notable/unique.

Everyone should give “Battle Angel Alita: Last Order ” a go – it”s a great manga.

Hmmm…I partly agree – it’s worth reading, even though I wouldn’t call it great.
