Oh, fear not y’all brave and trusty, loyal samurai – I am not laughing here. The news is real!
According to a brief announcement made in the latest issue of Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine, probably one of the most famous and loved, cherished samurai (rounin actually) stories will be retuning to the Japanese market, respectively to the world one too.Although not too much information was released, it is known that the Rurouni Kenshin manga will be “rebooted” (not quite literally, but translation is heavy when you’re not native in both Japanese and English) starting from the June edition of Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine. There is no specific number of future articles or arcs, but having the original creator – Nobuhiro Watsuki – working on this new project will be enough for most of the fans to await it passionately and patiently.
Moreover, his other manga “Embalming~The Another Tale of Frankenstein~” that is currently being released in the same magazine will be temporarily put on hiatus for the time being. That is probably so that everyone can focus on the Himura story, author, public, finances and everything else included.
I cannot say I am feeling happy for this. Not that I am a big fan of Rurouni Kenshin (I actually prefer other samurai stories), but because this one is a definite phenomenon in the otaku world and there can not be much bad with it returning. After all, why would the original mangaka try to ruin it? What else can we be worried about except it being ruined? Nothing… really. Though there are reason to be somewhat preoccupied, this is definitely a good news. I think it is my first feeling as excited about whether the manga will be good or not…
